Our story

We are committed to changing lives of low-income populations

We are a nimble and innovative funding partner with a dedicated capital facility, enabling inclusive growth for low-income communities through tailored solutions in agriculture, health, housing and inclusive finance enablers with cross-cutting themes of gender, migration and climate.

Launched in 2011, SCBF, is a Swiss public–private platform promoting financial inclusion in emerging and developing economies.

The founding members of the SCBF association were (in alphabetical order): Allianz SE Reinsurance (Zurich), Bamboo Finance, Credit Suisse AG, Financial Systems Development Services AG (FIDES), Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Swisscontact, Swiss Microfinance Holding SA, Swiss Re, Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture, and Zurich Insurance Group Ltd.

We collaborate with public and private partners to develop and scale responsible financial solutions for underserved communities globally.

We strategically blend resources to provide catalytic-funding, technical assistance, and guidance that help financial service providers and high-impact enterprises test, develop, and scale inclusive financial solutions - expanding financial awareness and enabling resilient, dignified livelihoods for low-income communities.

Since inception through 2024, Swiss Capacity Building Facility (SCBF) has co-funded 225+ projects across 50 countries, reaching over 6 million people with financial services that strengthen livelihoods, resilience, and economic empowerment. Building on this impact, our new strategy and financing instruments are designed to better support social enterprises and innovative organisations advancing sustainable financial inclusion.
