A Partnership to Strengthen Climate-Resilient Housing and Financial Inclusion

At SCBF, housing is a key focus area - recognising that resilience begins with a safe and secure home. In the face of increasing climate and health risks, strengthening housing is not only about shelter, but about enabling households to better withstand shocks and build long-term stability.
In this context, SCBF and Habitat for Humanity have come together in a strategic partnership to advance access to affordable, climate-resilient housing solutions for low- and middle-income households in Kenya’s Lake Victoria region. The collaboration reflects a shared ambition: to move beyond standalone interventions and develop integrated financial solutions that address the interconnected challenges of housing vulnerability, climate risk, and health shocks.
Working alongside local partners VisionFund Kenya and Britam, the initiative brings together housing microfinance, insurance, and early warning systems into a unified, client-centric model. By combining finance, insurance, and technology, the partnership equips underserved households with the tools to anticipate, withstand, and recover from shocks - while also enabling long-term investment in safer housing and improved wellbeing.
SCBF supports this effort through targeted technical assistance, contributing to the design of inclusive financial products, strengthening partner capacity, and generating practical insights that can inform future interventions.
Importantly, this collaboration is designed with scale in mind. Beyond Kenya, it offers a replicable model for other climate-vulnerable regions—demonstrating how partnerships can drive integrated solutions that advance both financial inclusion and climate resilience.
